Forgotten Projects: Slippers

slippers sewn

I don't know why it happened, but some years ago I became obsessed with wearing slippers. Ever since then I have been trying out different varieties in order to locate the perfect pair.

This red pair above was made by me last year using an old pair of slippers that I cut apart as a template. I made them out of an old towel, the same towel that I made this ice pack from. I don't know why I never got around to posting about until now.

These ended up being great, so I think the best thing to do is just make my own pair from now.

In Japan, I found the perfect slipper sewing magazine. They have lots of varieties in here and I love their use of colors and patterns. It's understated, but very good looking. Everyone seems to think that making things from a magazine in another language isn't that hard, but I have my doubts.

And in case you are curious... here are two of my former pairs of slippers, both Etsy purchases. The yellow pair is from CaitiJo and the dinosaur pair is from a shop called Piddies, but seems it be out of business now. Both were okay, but I found that I prefer the slip-on/heel less variety more.

Ice Pack

ice pack made from a towel

I finally got back to sewing this weekend by making an ice pack for the boy. He's been training for his 6th marathon and hurt his ankle a week ago. He's been icing it up every night, but would only put the bare ice pack on his leg. The suggestion of using a towel with the ice pack was shot down immediately. But I wanted to make an ice pack for him anyway. I knew it would be more comfortable.

Yesterday, I cut into an old towel (one that didn't match the rest of our gray set) and based the size off of the ice pack we had in the freezer. I happened to get some red velcro at the Crafty Swap & Beer from the previous week, so it was perfect. I put the velcro on both sides of the wrap so that you could just put it on without looking. It's just easier that way.

And... he uses it! Good.
