Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 10:52AM I'm in the process of making a disappearing 9 patch baby quilt for my friend's little niece or nephew - another mystery baby. The room will be light blue, but my friend really loved the frogs and snails from Heather Ross' Far Far Away fabric, so I found a bunch of fabrics that would incorporate the blue, but also the yellow and green from the frog fabric.
Everything was going very quickly and I started laying out the squares on the futon so I could see what fabrics I had already used. Then the cats (Franny & Zooey, by the way) came in to keep me company. That's fine. They were behaving and staying away from the squares.
Of course, not for long.
After I put the futon down to layout the squares, I left the room. Big mistake! I come back to this scene and you can tell that Zooey kind of took a running start and slid his little paws under the squares. But he is cute, so I can't stay mad for long.

Monday, September 21, 2009 at 8:04AM The zig zag baby quilt (based off of the Purl Bee tutorial) is finished. Actually it's been done for a week, but the baby shower was this weekend, so it's safe to show it. Even though the mom knew about the quilt, I didn't want to ruin the whole thing.
We decided to use rainbow colors to be gender neutral. Once this little mystery baby is born, then we'll add a patch with a message from its mom and made by me.
The binding and back of the quilt are re-purposed sheets that I bought a long time ago. I've been using them on a lot of projects because I love the rainbow colors so much.
I also gave these Cheeky Monster baby booties by Little Odd Forest. Besides being adorable, the green gingham inside matched nicely with the quilt.

Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:40PM I just came back from Kauai. It's so beautiful there.

I went to this fabric/quilting store there called Kapaia Stitchery. They had so much stuff to choose from and you could tell that the continual growth of so many flowers all over the island have definitely influenced the fabric designers there.
I wanted to get some local fabrics so, this is what I chose:
Bright colorful and fun.
The turtle print is exclusive to the shop.
And these are my absolute favorites. I love them so much! I am not sure what these will be used for yet, but perhaps a quilt would be nice mixed with some white fabric, of course.
At the last minute, I picked these two pattern books up at the airport. I'm sure they had them at the quilting store, but I just didn't think of it then.
Monday, September 8, 2008 at 12:05PM Austen, it's not going well. Remember how I said that your ice cave couch quilt would have lovely scalloped shapes instead of boring old lines quilted into it? Sorry, buddy. I'm afraid not.
Maybe I'm using this "Quilting made easy" template paper in the wrong fashion. Maybe it should only be used for edges. I don't know, but it just didn't work.
I mean, I was able to quilt a little bit... at a snail's pace, but it was wonky and didn't look very good. So, we are back to good old diamonds. I hope you can handle the news.
