Crafternoon: Ornaments

Maura & her Mom

I went to another Crafternoon this weekend - Ornament Edition - at Spacecraft in Brooklyn. That's Maura and her mom up there, who host the Crafternoons. Aren't they the cutest?

Snowflake Ornament

After heading straight for the cupcakes, I got down to business. This is the snowflake ornament I made using felt and embroidery thread. I traced a cookie cutter to get the pattern.

frederick, the tree

Now we have another ornament for our tree. His name is Frederick. Yes, we named the tree. We were trying to remember what kind of tree it was and I said, "A frederick?"

I think he feels a little naked right now. I'll have to get to work on the fabric garland/chain soon. Or maybe a popcorn chain? Hmm.

Crafternoon

This past weekend I went to a Crafternoon at the New York Public Library. It was hosted by my friend, Maura Madden, and author of Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long. This crafternoon featured two guest speakers: Hannah Rogge, author of Hardwear and Jessica Vitkeus, author of AlternaCrafts. Each Author spoke for a bit about some of the crafts in their books and then we all proceeded to do a little crafting ourselves.

I decided to make one of the paper punch cards from Jessica's book since I happened to need a very special birthday card. It was really easy and felt nice to make a card instead of trying to find one this year. This is really only the second time in my life that I have tried to embroider anything. I feel inspired to do more.

Alternacrafts

And then I actually won this book in the raffle! I never win stuff.

Alternacrafts

There are quite a few cute projects in this book. The rug made out of t-shirts stands out, but I think I might make myself a cozy hat from an old sweater. What a great idea.

If you guys are in the New York area and are interested in attending the next Crafternoon, then please check out the schedule here. There are a lot of amazing speakers. I was reluctant to share them with you for purely selfish reasons, but I had a change of heart, so please take a look. Maybe I'll see you there.
