Mini Update

Mini blueberry crisp

A little update: I made the blueberry crisp last week.

1. I think the oven temp was too high. It looked like it was boiling.

2. I think this caused the "crisp" part to sink to the bottom.

3. But... it was delicious. And that's all that really matters.

p.s. I've also been sick all this week. At first you might think... no work, home alone, lots of time to do stuff. But no. It really just means lots of time to be sick and do nothing. Not even eat the rest of those mini pies because you have no appetite and it would be wasteful to eat them when you can't taste the deliciousness with a stuffy nose.

Anyway, hopefully I'll get some sewing done this weekend.

Pie!

tasty morsel

Mmm... a tasty morsel of my homemade pie made with fresh pumpkin guts. Thankfully, it's not the last tasty morsel I will be devouring because I ended up making two whole pies and two small ramekins of pie since I had extra mix left.

the family's pie

I brought the less attractive pie down to my family's house for thanksgiving. Everyone had some this year and they really enjoyed the graham cracker crust. All part of my master plan to win them over on my first pie. Who could resist cookies baked into pie?

my pie

Here's my very own pie in it's full beautiful glory. Well, not exactly beautiful. I did spill the filling over the edge and onto the bottom of the oven. Who wouldn't want a lovely burnt smell permeating their entire apartment? There was also a little bit of panic because the centers were not fully cooked. In the morning I popped them back in the oven and they were fine.

Oh well. Lessons learned. What's thanksgiving without a little anxiety?

Cooking in bulk

I think I cooked all afternoon on Saturday. I was really on a roll. I don't normally do this much at once, but I kind of have this fantasy about having food half way prepared & frozen or of cooking in bulk so that I don't have to cook later in the week. Every now and then I try to see how much I can do. If I could fill my freezer up with stuff like like that, then I would be a happy person.  Alas, I'm usually too lazy to plan ahead for my future laziness.

salsa

I started out with the best of the bunch: the salsa. This recipe from the Moosewood Cookbook is now my all time favorite. I've been making it every week. It's perfect for me since I'm allergic to peppers and this is pepper-free. I made a double batch this time thinking it would last, but it's now monday and it's gone. I couldn't help myself!

oatmeal cookie dough

Then I made a double batch of Smitten Kitchen's oatmeal cookies. I only baked five, though. The rest are frozen for future sugar fixes.

frozen yogurt

Then I tried making frozen yogurt, but with some chocolate milk for flavor. It didn't come out as well as hoped, but it's still delicious.

soup and new table napkins

Then a big pot of soup to enjoy for the next few day's lunches.

table napkins

Oh, and these are the table napkins I made a couple of weeks ago. I thought I would have enough fabric for six, but I could only make four.

pizza from Pillsbury rolls

By this point it was dinner time. I made pizza using pillsbury dinner rolls that we had left in the fridge. It was actually quite tasty.
