Coasters

Here are the rest of the coasters that I made last week, but started in December. I have separated them into a couple of color groups. I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet, but perhaps I'll give them away to friends.

By the way, I got the fabric at Fiber Notion in Park Slope. They have lots of great, cute charm packs, along with all the other crafty goods you can buy there.

This is the front side of the set that I am keeping for myself. I love the colors.

Overdue

present

This little present was severely overdue.

It's for my friend, Rose, who wanted to give her family some new place mats for christmas. Yes, I know. Christmas. Yikes! I've learned my lesson. I feel terrible and I'll never do this again. Sorry, Rose.

These place mats were a little more complicated than my own, but I think they are worth it. (Perhaps I'll need a new set for myself?) I did learn something new in the process of making them: how to sew binding on solely by machine. I had only ever attached binding on quilts by machine sewing one side and hand sewing the rest. This is so much quicker.

I also realized that I had been folding my mitered corners incorrectly, too. Thank god I figured it out. It's much neater when you do it right.

Here's a little close up of my newly perfected corners:

Don't you just love the Alexander Henry 2D Zoo print? I do! Apparently, I can't get enough... here & here.

coasters

I added a little suprise to the package for Rose. She has asked me about these coasters I started awhile back and said she could use a few for her new place. I like them a lot. Not perfect, but the fabric is cute. I'll post the pictures of the rest of the coasters soon.

Procrastination Inspiration

Mental dialogue last night...

Left Brain: Just what do you think you are doing, young lady?

Right Brain: Well, uh... You see I had these fabric squares. And I just thought maybe they would make cute coasters. I mean, everybody needs coasters.

Left Brain: Yeah, but nobody needs coasters when there are 130 coffee sleeves to make - right now. Focus!

sixty five coffee sleeves

I am a notorious procrastinator. I was born this way. I've gotten better, though, especially when things that I need to do are items that are paid for already. Yesterday, I was doing so well. I had 65 coffee sleeves cut out and sewn together (about the half way point to being done).

But somehow, things went awry. Suddenly I find myself matching up fabric squares and making 22 coasters.

coasters and cozies

"Procrastination Inspiration" has hit. That's when you feel inspired to create something RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND... when you really should be doing something else.

I guess it's okay, though. I still got a lot of work done.
