Fabric Bulletin Board

It's amazing how an impending visit from your future in-laws can spark some organization. Finally! They will be staying in our second bedroom (the sewing room), so I have to clean up my mess of fabric and odds and ends lying around the room and covering the the futon completely.

My bulletin board is one of the things has been sitting on the ground since I moved in over a year ago, just waiting to be hung up. (See it up there in the corner?) It has a metal frame, though, so I wasn't exactly sure of an easy way to hang it. Then I went to my friend's house who bought two super cute fabric bulletin boards from Pulp Products and I considered just throwing mine out for a new one that would be more intersting and wouldn't be a hassle to hang. But suddenly, while organizing some fabric, I got inspired.

I found this upholstery fabric that I bought a long time ago and thought it would make a perfect background for a bulletin board - something intersting to look at, but wouldn't take away from whatever I tacked on it. The colors were also pretty nice against the green walls, too.

It was amazingly easy to do. I unscrewd the metal frame; laid out the fabric on the floor; sprayed the board with basting adhesive; smoothed the fabric against the board and then used an ordinary stapler to bring the fabric edges around. Easy.

I gave in and used double sided tape to hang it up because that's E's answer to hanging up anything and I could live with it in this instance. Then I used push pins to hang up the rulers. It's so nice to get all of this stuff up and off the floor. And the wall seems much more cozy as well since it's not a giant empty space.
